The Path of The Disciple

The Summer Solstice
and Pentecostal Illumination

As the Sun reaches the highest point of its northern declina tion at the Summer Solstice, so also at this time the Path of Discipleship rises to the summit of the mount of aspiration.

During the four Sacred Seasons of Equinoxes and Solstices the Disciple has learned much. He knows that the members of an exalted Brotherhood gather in their Temples of Initiation at each of these times to perform a special work for the human race, a work in which they may be joined by the new Initiate such as the Disciple aspires to become.

As the great master craftsmen have always made use of the powerful forces released at these periods to give immortal master pieces to the world, so the Masters of Wisdom have at these times given to the world the spiritual teachings which belong to the ages; and therefore also the Christ sent the "Spirit of Wisdom" to His Disciples in the grand Initiation known biblically as the Feast of Pentecost. On that occasion the great beauty and vision brought to earth by the Archangel Uriel found its most perfect expression.

Midsummer marks the perfect fruiting of nature's work of thi: year, as Pentecost marks the ultimate in man's spiritual evolution in the Earth Period. The Lord Christ was the Way-Shower, and those who walked most closely after Him upon His Way were the immortal Twelve: and they. walking thus closely in His footsteps, suceeded in reaching even to His own realm of Christed conscious ness - a state beyond all divisions, dissensions, inharmonies, where they experienced the "allness of the one and the oneness of the all." Enfolded in the Christ consciousness, the Disciples were able to accept the vision of a unified world and a unified humanity. No more could there be for them separateness in thought, or speech, or deed. God was all. They lived, and moved, and had their being wholly and completely in Him. It was this perfected sense of one ness that enabled them to understand and speak all languages. The secrets of heaven and earth were revealed to them and they spoke truths of which they had had no previous comprehension. In supreme exaltation of consciousness they understood and demonstrated for themselves the saying of Christ, "I am in the Father and the Father in me."

The Disciple has learned that certain specific forces are re leased at each of the four Sacred Seasons; he comes to know also that these forces are focused directly upon corresponding vital centers in the body. Awakening these centers constitutes the work of Discipleship, and their full maturation attests to the achievement of lnitiateship.

The force which plays upon the etheric body at the Autumn Equinox, that of Purification, affects the sacral center located at the base of the spine. Here the work of regeneration begins.

At the Winter Solstice the force irradiating the earth and man is the force of Love. The Christmas festival is the Love Feast par excellence, and so this force concentrates upon the etheric center in the heart.

The force which envelopes the earth at the Spring Equinox is resonant with Power, for it focuses upon the highest power center in the human body, the larynx. By this organ in the new race body will be generated the divine Creative Word.

And finally, the force enveloping the earth at the Summer Solstice is a radiant stream of Light, for this is the Holy Light Festival of the year; and the force centers at the top of the head where it becomes the heavenly lamp, illumining the universe and revealing all mysteries. It was the lighting of this spiritual lamp which created the halo about the head of each Disciple on that first and proto typal Pentecostal Feast.

At last it was given to the Disciples to know fully the meaning of the Cosmic Sacrifice. They were lifted up in the fiery Christ consciousness to read the records in that world where Christ rules alone. There they saw the interweaving and interblending of the cosmic forces in the annual cycle of Christ's descent and ascent; the inpouring at the Autumn Equinox. the outpouring at the Spring Equinox; the consummation of the Solstices. They saw how His life had become in very truth the life of the planet and of man. They understood His words: "I am the bread of life.'. "I am the light of the world." They realized what He had meant when He said, "All power has been given to me both in heaven and in earth."

Before this the Disciples had been but men; often weak and vacillating though always aspiring. Henceforth they were Christ's men, without reservation: and as such they had become not merely citizens of the world - they were that already by virtue of John's baptism - but citizens of the universe!

The great Christ Mystery is threefold. First. there is the Christ in the Sun. called the Cosmic Christ, who is the regent of our entire solar system. He is the Power behind all great world religions; and. we must assume also, of whatever religions are known on the other planets of our system. Second there is the Christ Ray, who descended to earth at the time of the Baptism of Jesus by John in the River Jordan; and who, on the momentous day of His sacrifice on Golgotha became the Indwelling Planetary Spirit. Third, there is the Christ to be born within man himself, within each man in dividually.

This Threefold Mystery of the Christos correlates with the Mystery of the Triune Godhead, or Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Ghost. The Cosmic Christ is "at one with the Father", and signifies the Father or First Aspect of the Trinity; it is He who shows us the Father. The Christ Ray, or Archangelic Christ, which took embodi ment in Jesus at the Baptism, is Christ the $on; while the Christ Within represents the action of Christ as the Holy Spirit, for these three are all One Mystery.

The Holy Spirit has been the great stumbling block of the Church of the Piscean Age; the New Aquarian Age will understand more of the scope of its work and power.

The next important step in human evolution is the birth of the Christ Within through the renewing of the mind. It is the stirring of the birth throes of this third aspect of the Christos which is causing the unrest and turmoil of the world today. No man can become a pioneer of the new race until the Christ has been born within himself. The call which the Holy Spirit now sends forth to those willing to hear is for complete dedication to the service of the Cosmic Christ, in thought, in word, in deed. Only such as make this unqualified dedication, who literally live and have their being in the Christ, can know the true wonder of the Feast of Pentecost.

Such was the Summer Solstice Feast of early Christendom: such it is today. The supreme spiritual Feast of Christianity, attuned to the purest and highest power of the Ascended Christ, it is a glowing milestone on the highway of human advancement, for it marks the ultimate goal to which humanity as a whole shall eventually win. In the clear vision of this Feast its participants saw the past and the future. They knew that they were Way Showers for coming generations and that they had partaken of rt sublime Mystery be longing to the future, a memorial of the age . bearing the imprint of an eternal fulfillment.
